Leona Catherine Murphy, 91, of Peoria, passed away at 9:08 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at Heartland of Peoria.
Her funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2011, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, with Fr. Thomas E. Taylor celebrating the Mass. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Evergreen Park.
Leona was born in Chicago on May 25, 1920, a daughter of Patrick J. and Amelia (Stingel) Norris, Sr. She married John F. Murphy on June 14, 1941 at St. Gall Parish in Chicago. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1990 in Chicago. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and her dog, Lucky.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia L. Murphy of Peoria and her son, Paul N. (Catha) Murphy of Tinley Park.
Leona was a homemaker, former member of the RiverPlex Arthritis Group in Peoria and a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Peoria and a member of its Women’s Guild. She was also a former President of the St. Gall Parish Altar and Rosary Society and a Life Member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Memorial contributions may be made in Leona’s memory to the Holy Family Mexican Mission.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue, in Peoria.
